There are TWO complete CAD/CAM program distributions now, this HTML page has the download link for the current DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) archive containing the v2.7 classic real memory mode version of the CAD/CAM programs, the download link for the v3.7 protected memory mode versions of these programs is in SECTION: 9.70.61.0. The protected memory mode CAD program versions might run some tasks more than twice as fast, might require less DOS memory so drivers for hardware such as a sound board and CD-ROM can be resident, would not use the harddisk frequently for overlay files, and so the protected memory mode program versions are generally preferred to the real memory mode versions. Actual speed differences between program versions and revisions will depend on various factors such as the computer used, the CPU used, the harddisk used, the OS used, and such, so the results you get may not be the same as anything described. The main reason for "Beta Testing" the v2.7 real memory mode versions would be if you want to run the CAM programs on an older computer that only has 640KB of memory installed, or does not have a harddisk, and such. If you have a computer with 16MB or more RAM you should probably "Beta Test" the current v3.7 protected memory mode versions of these programs linked to in SECTION: 9.70.61.0. The v3.7 protected memory mode versions may contain commands not found in the v2.7 real memory mode versions as time goes on, or the other way around. Speed differences between the programs depend on the computer system and OS being used for checking the speed and the results you get may vary greatly from one computer to another, or from any reference to speed mentioned.
Be sure to "unzip" the download before using any of the files! Be sure to scan and check any downloaded files for viruses, other corruption, and or defects.
Before you run the programs after you unzip them into a new sub- directory (new folder) you need to run the batch file that is unzipped with the other files called INSTALL.BAT. If you do not run INSTALL.BAT at the prompt like:
X:\DC27>INSTALL INSTALL
the needed sub-directories will not be present and the programs will generate error messages and not operate properly.
Steps to download and "Beta Test" the CAD and CAM program Files:
Read all the legal stuff in SECTION: 0 and all of text in all of this section.
Click on the download link to the *.ZIP file below if you have read, agree with, and you agree to be legally bound by the current "On-Line" End User License Agreement, Disclaimer, warnings and other legal text in SECTION: 0 and also the text, restrictions, directives, and warnings in this section.
Select "save to disk" and make sure the extension is *.ZIP.
If the download has the wrong extension rename it *.ZIP.
Unzip the program file(s) (and any other files) into a new CAD and CAM program directory that you have made using the DOS MD command, e.g. MD C:\DC27, do not overwrite the program version you have installed currently, it is best to make a new sub-directory for each program revision. If the *.ZIP file was saved into your "My Download Files" (\MYDOWN~1\) directory (folder) you will probably need to move or "cut" and "paste" the *.ZIP file into the directory you will be using it in.
Scan and check the programs and other "unzipped" files for viruses, download errors, and other problems.
Back-up your harddisk(s) before using, running, or "Beta Testing" any of my CAD and CAM or other programs.
Read all of the *.TXT files before you try to run the programs.
You must run the INSTALL.BAT file before you try to run the programs in order to setup and rearrange the unzipped files. Run the INSTALL.BAT file once to read the instructions, then run it a second time with the parameter INSTALL in all upper case in order to actually do the install operations, i.e. X:\DC27>INSTALL INSTALL, yes type INSTALL twice with a space in the middle.
Enter the name of the program *.EXE or *.COM file at the DOS prompt only after you have read the *.TXT files and run any install batch files required.
Read any screens that come up from the programs and follow instructions. The programs may do some calibration the first time they are run, do not copy the program files to another computer after you have run them the first time, only install "from scratch" using the original archive file.
If you want to check the programs to see if the video is working, there may be some sample drawing or macro files in the archive that can be loaded into the CAD program for use in testing the display under various video display modes.
If you have a 80286 or better computer with 16MB or more higher memory you probably will want to download DANCAD16.ZIP and install the v3.7 Protected mode version of the CAD/CAM programs in their own sub- directory, e.g. DC37 not DC27 and such, see SECTION: 9.70.61.0.
This section is a place in this Web site where internal links to files might be placed so that you can try to download the files for testing. Various file types may from time to time be made available for an indeterminate period of time and then become unavailable. File types such as: Beta test versions of executable program files, documentation files for proofreading, example data or macro files for testing of the programs and for the testing of the data files themselves, various utility and or batch files, media files, and perhaps some other file types such as these might be made available from time to time so that you might be able to help the author test, proofread, and de-bug the files and programs. Please do not ask about files or programs that you do not see here as being currently available.
I, the Author, cannot, and do not, warranty files downloaded, or copied, from this Web site, i.e. HTML document and associated files, to be free of computer virus infection, defect, error, fault, corruption, alteration, or contamination with any kind or form of destructive entities and or contaminants. You must assume the responsibility of checking any files downloaded, or copied, from this Web site, i.e. HTML document and associated files, for computer virus type of infection, or any other kind of defect, and if some infection or defect survives your inspection you must bear any and all of the costs associated with or from any damage, injury, tort, or claim by a third party, and or all of the costs of recovery, and repair, from any damage or loss caused by the infection or defect.
Do not download, copy, use, or retain, any files from this Web site (HTML document) if you cannot accept them "as is" and with no warranty of any kind express, expressed, or implied.
All files available for download from, that are part of, or are associated with, this Web site are: Beta-test, experimental, posted for proofreading, posted for finding and reporting of any bug they might contain, or are for use in testing other Beta-test, experimental, and or developmental programs, and therefore may not function properly, and or the use of any of the files or programs downloaded, copied, or used may result in the loss of data, or other damage or loss, may also result in physical and or other types of injury, and therefore might also result in someone's death. You must backup your harddisk before attempting to download, copy, view, or use any files associated with or available for download from this Web site (HTML document) in order to safeguard your data, programs, OS, and other files.
Some restrictions are placed on how, and by whom, files may be downloaded, and or copied, from this Web site, i.e. HTML document and associated files, and how, and by whom, those files may be used, copied, catalogued, viewed, edited, distributed, archived, shared, incorporated in derivative works, rented, loaned, sold, retained, transmitted, possessed, applied, employed, exploited, operated, run, treated, dealt with, taken, and or otherwise utilized. Violation of the letter, and or intent, of the restrictions included in, or implied by, the End User License Agreement ("EULA"), and other text, in SECTION: 0, and or the violation of various copyright and other applicable laws, might result in your being subjected to prosecution and or your being subjected to other penalties.
The Screen shots and Example Output relating to this distribution have been moved to SECTION: 4. The Links here take you to those illustrations and related text. Since v2.7 and v3.7 look similar and produce similar output these illustrations may be linked to by the download pages for both versions. The appearance of the current version may be somewhat different than what the illustrations show, since the illustrations may have been made with a different version or revision.

DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) archives the basic set of files used by the CAD/CAM programs in their v2.7 classic real memory mode state of development. This DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) distribution archive may now, as a practical matter, be largely replaced by the v3.7 protected memory mode distribution in DANCAD16.ZIP (tm) linked to in SECTION: 9.70.61.0, so you should read that section about downloading v3.7 before you download DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm).
The hardware requirements for v2.7 can be very simple and the programs can be "Beta Tested" on both older and newer computers. You may be more likely to run into problems with "Beta Testing" the programs when they are run under an OS that is not fully compatible with DOS programs. See the FAQ section for information relating to such issues.
The system requirements for v2.7 are:
IBM PC, XT, or AT compatible computer
Video card that supports one or more of these standards: CGA, Hercules (tm) monographics, EGA, VGA, or VESA 1.2 or higher video BIOS compatible SVGA. 24 or 32 bit "True Color" VESA video BIOS modes are supported by the CAD programs up to and beyond 2048x1536 resolution. If your SVGA card does not support VESA 1.2 or higher video BIOS modes then that card may not work in SVGA resolution, or you may only get the VGA modes. It is possible to output 24bpp BMP files in color if the video board does not support VESA SVGA, but you would have to look at the BMP file's image in another program.
32MB of harddisk space or more recommended although it may be possible to use less space for simple drawings. Up to eight 2.1GB or larger harddisks may be desirable for some advanced tasks.
640KB of DOS "lower" memory.
8088 CPU or better. A PIII coppermine 733MHz or AMD XP 2800+ are faster but not absolutely required for many CAD operations. An 80286 to 80486 may give adequate speed for general use of the CAM programs, although faster or slower computers might be used depending on the maximum motor step pulse rates, i.e. maximum feed rate and rapid tool motion, needed.
DOS 6.22 or compatible OS. The CAD programs might run in a Windows 95 OSR 2 (tm) or Windows 98SE DOS window. The v2.7 CAD programs may run under DOS v2.1, but the v2.7 CAM programs requires DOS v3.0 or a higher version.
For printing, a Parallel printer port and printer that supports compatible codes such as Dot Matrix codes such as Epson (tm), Laser PCL, Laser HPGL/2, Laser PostScript (tm), or pen plotter codes such as HPGL. Printing to Windows (tm) color printers may be possible by saving the drawing as a BMP file and printing that with MSPAINT.EXE (tm) or some other Windows (tm) graphics program. For the CAM programs a Parallel printer port is required, and a Joy-Stick port is also required for some special features.
Serial or PS/2 mouse supported but not required.
If your computer has more than 640KB of memory, such as 16MB or more RAM memory installed, you will probably want to "Beta Test" the current v3.7 rather than v2.7 since v3.7 can use RAM memory beyond the DOS 640KB and the v3.7 CAD programs may run some tasks more than twice as fast as v2.7, see SECTION: 9.70.61.0 for more information about v3.7. Actual speed differences between program versions and revisions will depend on various factors such as the computer used, the CPU used, the harddisk used, the OS used, and such, so the results you get may not be the same as anything described.

Note that you must use INSTALL.BAT to install some of the files into sub-directories before you run the programs the first time. You need to use your unzip program to unzip the archive into a new sub-directory (i.e. C:\DC27) before you use INSTALL.BAT to rearrange the files. There may be some additions or deletions from the files in the archive, depending on which version you have downloaded as the FILES.TXT information, and the listing above, are general preliminary information and not specific to the archive currently developed.
This DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) file holds a revised set of my v2.7 version CAD and CAM programs. Any included *.TXT files that have preliminary information about this archive of programs that should be read before "Beta Testing" my programs. The name of this *.ZIP file comes from my original CAD program DANCAD3D.COM (tm). When referring to this distribution archive always include the filename, the time, and the date from when the file was originally created (not the time and date of your copy) for identification, since there may be more than one revision of this DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) archive file, or other file, with different origin dates and times.
See also SECTION: 3.3.7.0 for information relating to these "Beta Test" updated programs.
See also SECTION: 9.70.61.0 for information relating to the v3.7 protected memory mode program versions in DANCAD16.ZIP (tm).
If you get Error: 404 or file not found or some other error when you click on the download link to the DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) file below, it may be because you are using an older version of this download page stored on your computer or a disk. You must visit the current on-line version of this download page and use the [Reload], [Refresh], or similar feature in your Web browser to view the most current version of this Web page which has the current URL for the current DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) version. Always click on the browsers [Reload] or [Refresh] icon to try to get the current page before trying to use any download link to any ZIP or other files from this Web site. In some cases you may need to hold down [Shift] or [Ctrl] while clicking on [Reload] or [Refresh]. The URL to the current DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) version may change on each revision so you need to use the current S0970510.HTM download page in order to link to the current DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) file. The older DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) files probably got deleted from the Web site, so their link URL's would be no longer valid.
DANCAD3D.ZIP (tm) is only for use in "Beta Testing" this version of my CAD and CAM programs. You can try to use the [W]rite command in the CAD programs to read any sample macro files in this archive.
After you download the file(s) you will need to "un-zip" (extract) the file(s) with an un-zip program into the correct sub- directory, in the case of the CAD and CAM Program Files, all the files usually go into the same new sub-directory created just for this "Beta Test" version of the programs.
Always check any files you download to see if they are infected with a computer virus, or have some other problem. You should download the file twice, sending each copy of the *.ZIP file to a different sub-directory so you can use the DOS command FC to compare both copies to see if they are the same, if one is different (does not compare OK) you probably have a corrupted download, and you will need to download both copies again!
EXAMPLE: C:\DOS\FC C:\TEMP1\SOMEFILE.ZIP C:\TEMP2\SOMEFILE.ZIP
Using the DOS FC command to compare two downloads of the same file will not insure that the files are not infected with a computer virus, and or that the files downloaded are not corrupted, truncated, defective, or compromised. Using FC may give a indication that the files downloaded need to be downloaded again, but will not indicate that the files are free of defect.
In addition to checking the *.ZIP file for computer virus infection, corruption, truncation, or other problems, you should also check all the un-zipped files as well. You are responsible for choosing the means that you feel are best for you to use in checking downloaded files, safeguarding your computer, and protecting yourself and your property.
